Thorleifur Örn Gunnarsson

ICELAND

Hello! I’m Thorleifur Örn Gunarsson, or Thor, an experienced teacher with a B.Ed. from the University of Iceland and an MT in Social Studies from Teachers College, Columbia University. I’ve worked with children and teens across various age groups, and I’m currently teaching at Langholtsskóli in Reykjavik.

In 2020, my team and I were awarded the Icelandic Educational Award for our innovative project-based learning approach, which integrates subjects like Icelandic, social studies, natural science, and IT. My teaching is inspired by John Dewey’s philosophy that education should mirror students' real lives, encouraging them to initiate projects that empower them, explore creative problem-solving, and leverage technology as a tool for change.

Project-based learning, design thinking, and 21st-century skills are at the heart of my teaching, helping students to think critically and make a meaningful impact.

You will meet me on the Project Based Learning in the Classroom course.
